Paediatrics SIG:
Introduction to Coaching Practice


Workshop objectives:

  • Introduce a range of coaching models
  • Share some practices of coaching within the paediatrics setting in Singapore and Internationally


Speakers: 


1.   Dr. Karina Dancza

Dr Karina Dancza is an Assistant Professor in the Health and Social Sciences Cluster at Singapore Institute of Technology. Karina’s 20-year experience as an occupational therapist began with her studies at the University of South Australia and her graduate work with children and young people in Adelaide. She continued her career as a senior clinician in the United Kingdom, where she spent 15 years working in practice, higher education and as a national policy advisor for the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. In 2018, Karina joined SIT to continue her passion for occupational therapy education.  Her PhD research interests were in student learning processes and children’s occupational therapy practice. Based on her PhD research, in 2018 she authored the textbook, Implementing Occupation-Centred Practice: A Practical Guide for Occupational Therapy Practice Learning, and she is now working on her second book about professional supervision.

 

2. Mr. Guo Hua

Guo Hua graduated from Nanyang Polytechnic with a diploma in Occupational Therapy in 2011 and has obtained Master of Science, Occupational Therapy from Queen Margaret University (Edinburgh) in 2014. His clinic experience includes managing child with sensory processing difficulties, learning difficulties and other developmental delays. He values providing family-oriented therapy and parent education, as these are essential for successful intervention outcomes in the child’s development.

 

3. Ms. Tan Shanice

Ms Tan Shanice is an Occupational Therapist registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of Singapore. She graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor in Occupational Therapy and has 15 years of clinical experience working with children and adolescents with neuro-developmental conditions. She is a certified practitioner of the sensory integration approach as well as a master coach in early childhood intervention. She is currently employed at a community-based early intervention centre and locums at a private therapy clinic. She presented in the National Occupational Therapy Conference in 2013 and 2019, and her pilot research on parent coaching was accepted for poster presentation in the 4th International Conference in Applied Research (Hong Kong). She has developed and conducted many individual and group intervention programs, professional training and caregiver training programs. She is passionate about empowering individuals and families to pursue their life goals. In her free time, she and her 3 children spend the day at the beach. She enjoys running and swimming while the children entertain themselves with skate-boarding.
