Pediatrics SIG:
Fostering Trauma Sensitive Practice in Occupational Therapy for Singapore’s Children and Youth
This 90-minute online session is intended to expand awareness of the presence of trauma as a component of challenging behaviour, learning difficulties and mental health issues.
Different forms of trauma contribute to a wide variety of behavioural outcomes: developmental trauma, shock, experiential trauma, collective trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Children with developmental disabilities who receive occupational therapy often experience trauma in addition to their neuro-developmental underpinnings. An exploration of observable manifestations of this co-morbidity will be explored with a wide OT lens.
Objectives:
1) What is trauma-informed practice and what does that look like in OT practice?
2) Impact of current landscape on trauma-informed practice
3) Sharing of some case examples on trauma-informed practice in the field of paediatrics
4) Learn about resources we can tap into in order for us to be better informed with trauma-informed practice
