APSN innovates inclusive design: Homegrown & 3D‑printed tools empower special‑needs trainees

Singapore’s Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN) continues to innovate with in-house designed assistive tools – some produced via 3D‑printing, others through partnerships – that empower trainees with special needs to perform work tasks more independently.

Highlights include:

  • Velcro aprons and glove‑assisting devices for easier wear
  • 3D‑printed baking tools, such as cookie‑shaping presses, multi‑function egg‑beaters (that also separate yolk from white), box stabilizers, and more, tailored for F&B work environments

Mark Ho, Occupational Therapy Aide, shares: “These aids are thoughtfully designed to bridge physical challenges like muscle stiffness or limited motor control.”

APSN Trainees undergo approximately three years of training before entering the workforce more independently.

This blend of tech and empathy underscores APSN’s commitment to empowering every individual to thrive.
