Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder which affects three in every 1,000 Singaporeans aged 50 and above. Hallmark characteristics of PD includes bradykinesia and rigidity. To target this, a new approach to therapy termed LSVT BIG was developed in 2015.
LSVT BIG is an intensive, individualised, evidence-based treatment comprising 16 one-hour sessions over four weeks. Conducted by a certified therapist, LSVT BIG focuses on training large-amplitude movements through increasing both speed and amplitude of chosen functional tasks in people with PD.
As clinicians, we play a pivotal role in supporting individuals with PD to manage their symptoms and continue engaging and performing well in their valued occupations. In this Dynamix Lab, we will share how LSVT BIG principles can be applied in therapy sessions through case examples and demonstrations.
