Synopsis:
Join us for an enlightening Dynamix Lab session that brings together experts in developmental optometry and occupational therapy to explore the impact of vision on childhood development and learning. Featuring insightful presentations by Andy Teo (Developmental Optometrist and preschool director), Amanda Tan (Senior Educational and Vision Therapist), and Ms Phua Jia Jun (Senior OT), this programme delves into visual processing, targeted interventions, and the essential role occupational therapists play in supporting children with visual challenges in mainstream settings. Through interactive discussions and real-world case sharing, attendees will gain practical strategies to collaborate across disciplines and elevate support for children with diverse visual needs.
Speakers’ Bio:
Andy Teo is a Developmental Optometrist and Director of Early Learning’s Fun Preschool, with over a decade of experience working with children and individuals with visual, learning, and neurological challenges. He conducts functional vision assessments and provides vision therapy for conditions such as dyslexia, ADHD, autism, brain injury, and binocular vision dysfunction. Andy holds a Master’s in Clinical Optometry (USA), a Postgraduate Certificate in Behavioural Optometry (Australia), and is a Board Certified Fellow in Vision Therapy (FCOVD, USA). He is also a member of the Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation Association and the Singapore Optometric Association.
Amanda Tan is an educator and therapist with over a decade of experience teaching students across primary to tertiary levels, including those with special educational needs such as dyslexia, intellectual disability, and acquired head injury. She specialises in working with students who do not respond to typical literacy interventions and authored Effective Intervention for Atypical Dyslexics. A strong advocate for the link between neurophysiology and learning, Amanda integrates vision therapy, sound therapy, and movement-based approaches to support cognition and behaviour. She holds multiple postgraduate qualifications in applied linguistics, special education, and specific learning differences, and is a Certified Safe and Sound Protocol Practitioner. Amanda is currently advancing her work by developing a predictive machine learning model to assess responsiveness to phonics-based literacy interventions.
Jia Jun is a Senior Occupational Therapist with experience supporting children and youth across different settings. She previously worked in an early intervention centre, and is now focused on supporting integration/participation of school-going children and youth in mainstream school settings. Jia Jun is a firm believer of maximising every child’s potential, and providing integration and inclusion opportunities where available.
